New Mythical Pokémon First To Receive An Evolved Form

For the first time in Nintendo’s history, a mythical Pokémon will be able to evolve. Just a few weeks ago, Pokémon GO players were confused when a steel nut creature appeared which would immediately transform into Ditto once caught. The Pokémon was revealed to be Meltan, although initially nothing was revealed about how to catch this elusive mythical within the game.

According to the Pokémon website, Meltan will evolve into Melmetal and become vastly stronger with a unique steel-move called Double Iron Bash. To evolve the Meltan, players will need to collect 400 candies which can be earned by all the standard means including catching, transferring and walking your buddy. Owning Pokémon: Let’s Go will be essential to herding enough Meltan for evolution which is set for a November 16th release date.

As a mythical Pokémon we can’t expect it to be as common as Zubat on week one of the game. In the official Pokémon videos about the Meltan Research Update, the two professors referred to a “mystery box” which allows the creature to appear. To receive this box, players will need to send their Pokémon from their phones to Let’s Go: Pikachu or Eevee whether it’s their own copy or a friends. You’re able to use the mystery box once and the Meltan will only appear for the user who opened the box, no other player will be able to see them on their field map. Pokémon Trainers will be able to receive another box after waiting a certain period of time, then sending more Pokémon to the Switch.

For those not planning on purchasing the upcoming Switch game, the website mentions special research which will be arriving at the end of year therefore it’s possible that players will be able to catch Meltan, but will require Let’s Go to acquire enough to evolve into Melmetal.

In the meantime, start working on the latest special research that’s been released with the Halloween update to catch your very own Spiritomb. According to the Pokémon Go website, this research will only be available for a limited time and with three tiers to complete, it’s time to start training.
